CAPSULE WARDROBES: WHAT'S THE DEAL?
Do you ever find yourself looking at your overflowing closet but still struggling with finding something to wear?
Is it time to sort through your wardrobe and donate those impulse buys that you never wear? Does getting dressed everyday seem too chaotic? While this idea is certainly not for everyone, you could try adopting a new approach to your closet and build a capsule wardrobe.
WHAT IS A CAPSULE WARDROBE? Put simply, a capsule wardrobe is made up of only around 20 pieces that all match and coordinate well with one another. Think limited selection and interchangeable pieces. This ensures that nothing is unused and simplifies the choices you have to make.
STAPLE ITEMS. Find items that work for your day to day lifestyle. You can always find a great pair of jeans and quality T-shirt that goes with everything. Try adding a blazer, a nice sweater, and a midi-skirt or dress.
DON'T START FROM SCRATCH. You do not have to get rid of everything you own to start your own capsule wardrobe. Begin by getting rid of things you never wear, and then focus on what you wear all the time (we all have those 3-5 things that are on a constant rotation!) and go from there. Splitting up your wardrobe by seasons can be a helpful first step.
CAN I USE COLOR? It's no surprise that capsule wardrobes tend to be neutral-toned to help with matching pieces, but that doesn't mean you can't still have fun with color. Experiment with color with fun accessories such as sunglasses, purses, or shoes!
NEED AN EXAMPLE? A typical true capsule wardrobe has 3 basic tees, 2 tank tops, 3 dressy shirts or blouses, 3 sweaters, 2 pairs of dress pants, 1 pair of shorts, 1 jumpsuit, 2 dresses, 2-3 pairs of jeans, 2 jackets, 3 pairs of shoes, and 2 purses.
